Storm season and your roof
Wind and hail can damage a roof without it being obvious from the street. If a storm has come through, here's what to do first:
- Stay off the roof. Look from the ground and from windows.
- Note missing or flipped shingles, dented gutters and debris.
- Check ceilings and the attic for fresh water stains.
- Take photos and write down the date of the storm.
- Book a storm damage roof inspection.

Four hail events of 1.75 inches in two years means a lot of O'Fallon roofs have been hit more than once. If your roof was repaired after one storm and then hit again, the newer damage is a new claim — the inspection separates the two.
Working with your insurance
If you plan to file a claim, we can inspect the roof and give you a written estimate of the repair work. We are not a public adjuster, and your insurer decides what is covered. Our insurance and storm damage roofing page explains the process.
When replacement is the better value
Repairs make sense on a roof with plenty of life left. Replacement starts to make more sense when the shingles are worn across the whole roof, when you've had several repairs in a short time, or when damage reaches the decking underneath. Our roof repair and roof replacement pages go into more detail.
